Phlebotomy
Keep samples at room temperature (8 degrees C to 24 degrees C).
Transport
Transport all bloods between 8 degrees C to 24 degrees C within 24-48 hours. Specimens can be refrigerated between 2 degrees C and 8 degrees C overnight. DNA samples can be transported at room temperature.
Registration
Any samples still in the container at the end of the day must be refrigerated.

Additional Specimen Information
1. A minimum of 0.5 mL of blood can be processed; however, sufficient DNA for downstream testing cannot be guaranteed if less than 4.0 mL of blood is collected.
2. DNA can also be extracted from amniotic fluid, chorionic villus samples (CVS), tissue samples, buccal swabs, or saliva collected using the ORAcollect kit.
3. DNA extracted by the referring laboratory can also be submitted for testing. A minimum of 2 µg of DNA is required. The DNA concentration and extraction method must be provided with the sample.
