Urine mercury is usually done for suspected chronic environmental exposure. For determining acute exposure or toxicity from organic forms of mercury, blood mercury is the preferred test (see Mercury - blood).

Additional Specimen Information

Spot urine or 24 h urine collection - non-acidified preferred but acidified urine is acceptable

A spot urine in a plain container is the preferred sample for occupational exposure assessment.
