Pre-testing Requirements

Medical staff must review and discuss risk factors, benefits and contraindications with the patient prior to commencing any testing.
Section 29 consent form must be completed prior to commencing testing.

Additional Referral/Aliquot Information

Immediate hypersensitivity skin testing requested by GPs and specialists external to Te Toka Tumai should be referred to Awanui Auckland.

Test Method

Intra-epidermal prick of minute amounts of standardised allergen solutions.

Negative (saline) and positive (histamine) controls must be included with each test.

Limitations / Interference

Antihistamines or drugs with antihistamine activity may interfere with testing.
Contraindications and relative contraindications must be reviewed by medical staff before any testing is performed.
