Laboratory Notes:
Pre-Testing Requirements - Request form must give the following information:
Asparaginase type: PEG or Erwinia
Dose amount (U/m2), date of dose
Evidence of allergic reaction; confirmed/suspected/no evidence
Weight (Kg) and height (cm)

Sample:
4 mL heparin non-gel tube

Transport/Stability:
Transport to the laboratory at room temperature
Must be separated within 2 hours
Aliquot into two separate aliquots of at least 0.5 mL each
Freeze immediately

Transport to Canterbury Health Laboratories:
Send both aliquots frozen

PEG-asparaginase activity will be measured by CHL in fortnightly batches while Erwinia-asparaginase will be forwarded to the Children's Hospital at Westmead in Sydney for testing.
