Sample is not to be shared. Fasting specimen preferred.

Specimens must be collected ON ICE and the plasma separated from the red cells within 30 minutes of collection and immediately frozen.

Haemolysed samples unsuitable.

If EDTA sample received is NOT on ice:
Ensure sample is still centrifuged, separated and frozen. Write 'EDTA not received on ice' on request form, checking time received is noted on form. Label request form with a Query Correct Sample sticker. Register for Free Fatty Acid (FFAS) AND register a Query Correct SCP (QSCP).
