Note: PTHrP is rapidly destroyed by plasma enzymes; blood must be collected into a special tube containing enzyme inhibitors. PTHrP tubes should be kept frozen until used. Tubes should be used straight from the freezer, no warming or heating required.
Pre-collection: External request: Please contact the LabPlus blood collection rooms at Auckland City Hospital (ext. 25246) to arrange for this test.
Within Hospital request: The collection tubes should be kept frozen until used. Contact Specimen Services (ext 22122) for the tubes before taking the blood sample. Tubes will be received on ice.
Specimen Collection:
Draw blood with a syringe and needle. Transfer about 3mL of blood from the syringe into the GREEN labelled PTHrP cocktail tube - mix gently with 4-5 inversions
As soon as possible ( within 15 minutes of collection ), centrifuge and transfer the plasma to the BLACK labelled plastic aliquot tube provided (labelled "PTHrP plasma only)
Store and transport frozen. NOTE: the PTHrP cocktail (GREEN tube, should be used straight from the freezer - no warming or heating required.

Register sample with suffix 'RP'
PTHrP tubes are stored in Freezer 36 in Specimen Services - in a container labelled as "PTHrP tubes" located in shelf 5.
Centrifuge the GREEN labelled cocktail tube and transfer the plasma to the BLACK labelled plastic aliquot tube provided (labelled "PTHrP plasma only").
Plasma must be separated within 15 minutes of collection
Store and transport frozen
