Pre-testing Requirements

Allergy testing requires an appointment with Phlebotomy.
Medical staff requesting the testing must review and discuss risk factors, benefits and contraindications with the patient prior to commencing any testing. Section 29 consent form must be completed by the requesting clinician prior to commencing testing.

Test Method

Intra-epidermal prick of minute amounts of standardised allergen solutions.

Negative (saline) and positive (histamine) controls must be included with each test.

Limitations / Interference

Antihistamines or medications with antihistamine activity may interfere with testing.
Contraindications and relative contraindications must be reviewed by medical staff before any testing is performed.
