Pre-testing Requirements
The consent form and the SD1 Referral Form, which are used by pathologists to refer specimens in sudden death cases to CIDG and LabPlus, can be found in the Additional Information section. It is important to ensure that consent is obtained from all patients for the storage of their DNA samples. The referring clinician is responsible for obtaining informed patient consent for testing, sample storage, and sending samples overseas when required. By submitting a referral, the clinician confirms that appropriate consent has been obtained. Consent forms do not need to be provided to the laboratory, and consent status will not be checked by laboratory staff.
Additional Specimen Information
Tissue samples should be collected in a plain container and transported frozen. Liver tissue is not suitable for DNA extraction for genetic testing due to the regenerative and hyperdiploid nature of hepatic cells.
