Test Method

Low density lipoprotein cholesterol is calculated using the Sampson formula from 2021.

LDLc(mmol/L) = 1.055*TC-1.030*HDLc-(Tg/3.735+(Tg*nonHDLc)/24.18-(Tg^2)/79.38)-0.2445

This calculation is valid when serum triglycerides are less than 9.0 mmol/L.

Limitations / Interference

If the triglyceride concentration is greater than 9.0 mmol/L, the estimate of LDL Chol is unacceptably inaccurate and will not be reported.
