Specimen Requirements

Tube/Container Type:

Preferred

• UTM Kit Flocked Swab - Viral

Collection instructions:
Blood or urine accepted only if throat swab is unobtainable, discuss with clinical virologist before sending.
For any other sample type or non-routine specimen type , please contact the Clinical Virologist through AK-MOL-INF-DIS@TeWhatuOra.govt.nz prior to requesting testing.

A dedicated specimen (i.e. no other tests to be performed) is required for this assay.

Laboratory instruction:
Labplus run Measles PCRs 7 days a week, including weekends and public holidays.

Waitakere- any Measles PCR samples received should be sent to Lab+ by TAXI upon arrival.

NSH - if there is no courier going to LabPlus within the next 60mins - please taxi the specimen to LabPlus at all times.

Transport samples in a RED bag at all times to ensure they are noticed on receipt.
