Specimen Requirements

Tube/Container Type:

Preferred

• UTM Kit Flocked Swab - Viral

Acceptable

• BD Urine Tube (no additive)
• Specimen Container
• EDTA (Lavender Cap)

"- Throat or Nasopharyngeal - UTM flocked swab
- Urine* - 50 mL in sterile container *ONLY if throat swab is not available
- Tissue - Special investigations – contact LabPlus regarding brain biopsy, lung tissue - require 5g sterile container tissue
- EDTA* Only if a throat swab is unobtainable.

A dedicated specimen (i.e. no other tests to be performed) is required for this assay.

Labplus run Measles PCRs 7 days a week, including weekends and public holidays.

Waitakere- any Measles PCR samples received should be sent to Lab+ by TAXI upon arrival.

NSH - if there is no courier going to LabPlus within the next 60mins - please taxi the specimen to LabPlus at all times.

Transport samples in a RED bag at all times to ensure they are noticed on receipt.
