Pre-testing Requirements

Specimens MUST be properly labelled with full name and NHI or full name and date of birth, and accompanied with a matching request form.
Please note on the requisition form the type of specimen submitted, i.e. voided, catheter spec., bladder washing, ureteric specimen or cystoscopy specimen.
Three consecutive samples during weekdays are advised.

Urine specimen should be collected in a screw-capped yellow top container. Please ensure that the cap is closed to ensure the specimen does not leak in transit.

Additional Specimen Information

Discard early morning urine. Up to 50ml of the first catch of a fresh midmorning voided urine is the preferred sample.
If urine sample is for microbiology and cytology testing, highlight microbiology on request form - the sample must be sent to Awanui before cytology is tested.
