Limitations / Interference

β-hCG test may be subjected to interferences from e.g. heterophilic antibodies. There are also some benign conditions (physiological or familial) that can cause persistent elevation in beta-hCG. Before deciding on invasive procedures on the basis of this result, especially if the raised beta-hCG is not particularly consistent with the clinical picture, please consult the laboratory for further advice.

This test (Roche HCG Plus Beta) is suitable for diagnosing or monitoring patients with gestational trophoblastic diseases (GTD - e.g. hydatidiform mole), germ cell tumours or other tumours that secrete hCG. When monitoring patients, the hCG test must always be performed by the same laboratory.
