Assay Method:
Analyser: Diasorin Liaison XL analyser.
Principle: Diasorin 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D sandwich-immunoassay (performed by Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology, Queensland, Australia)

Diagnostic Use and Interpretation: This test is NOT a valid measure of Vitamin D status (see 25-OH vitamin D). 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D is the active metabolite of Vitamin D. It may be elevated in patients with granulomatous disease and hypercalcaemia. It may be useful in investigating patients with hypercalcaemia of unknown cause and a suppressed parathyroid hormone level. There are very few other clinical indications which require this test.

1,25 vitamin D must be approved by a chemical pathologist before being sent away. The approval process by a Chemical Pathologist will follow the procedure as listed in document LPALSERWPR009 "Pathology Approval Process".

Sample Stability:
3 hours at room temperature
14 days at 4oC
Freezer if longer than 14 days

Transport Information:
Transport to Australia. Can be sent at 4oC unless the transport time is likely to be greater than 14 days, then send frozen.
