Sendaway to Canterbury Health Laboratories (CHL)
- Separate serum within 4 hours of collection
- Paediatric minimum sample volume: 0.5 mL serum
- Serum - send chilled (2 - 8 degrees Celsius)
- Check two points of ID are on aliquot tube
- If Apolipoprotein A is also requested, separate lab numbers are required. Two sendaways cannot be registered on one lab number.

Information for requestors
Note that ApoB quantitation is distinct from the Familial Hypercholesterolaemia Genetic Test.
ApoB levels are strongly associated with non-HDL cholesterol concentrations and thus do not provide much additional information beyond a standard lipid panel in most cases.

Testing should be considered under specialist advice.

ApoB may be helpful when there is a suspected discordance between cholesterol and particle number or hypo/abetalipoproteinaemia.
