Gram stain result available same day, or urgently on request. Culture reports on positives are issued immediately. Interim negative reports are issued after 48 hours and a final report is issued at 7 days. Note:Nocardia results issued after 14 days.

Additional Specimen Information

Biopsies should be sent in a small volume of sterile saline to prevent drying. Larger specimens should be sent in a sterile pot with no additives.
Samples in formalin are NOT acceptable. Consultation with the Microbiologist or Infectious Diseases Service is recommended.
