Phlebotomy
A dedicated specimen (i.e. no other tests to be performed) is required for this assay.
Transport
EDTA: transport to the laboratory at ambient temperature on the day of collection.
Separating
Unspun EDTA whole blood
Laboratory
Whole EDTA blood required.: should be sent to the Molecular Infectious Diseases section during normal working hours, Monday to Friday (08:00–16:00). After hours and on weekends, store specimens at 2–8°C in the designated box/rack in ALSS.
Sample Stability
EDTA whole blood: Stable at room temperature for up to 24 hours and at 2–8°C for up to 7 days.

Additional Specimen Information
There is an absolute minimum volume for this assay - 2.5 mL EDTA whole blood
If any less volume is received the specimen will not be tested.
Adult EDTA whole blood:
4 ml EDTA tube is required with a minimum of 2.5 mL blood in the tube.
Paediatric micro-EDTA whole blood:
Five full Micro collect EDTA tubes are required.
Please discuss with Clinical Virologist prior to requesting the test.
