Additional Specimen Information

Heparin tube or syringe: At Middlemore these samples are tested on the blood gas analyser. Results are accurate only if received and tested <15mins from time of collection. Beyond this time, there will be significant and unpredictable rise in whole blood lactate. A result on a specimen received more than 15 mins after drawing will be reported as "<2mmol/L", "4mmol/L"
