Laboratory Handling

Phlebotomy

  • Collect 2 x 2.7ml Citrate (Blue Cap) or 3 x 1.8ml Citrate (light Blue Cap).

    Transport

  • Please arrange for delivery by an Orderly if possible.
  • Avoid use of pneumatic tubes (Lamson) for transporting specimens.
  • DO NOT PLACE ON 8100.
  • Frozen samples are stored in the Specimen Freezer (No 35) in the Coagulation rack.
  • Partially thawed samples should be given directly to Coagulation staff.

    Sample Stability

    Spin within 1-hour of collection, test within 4-hours of collection or filter and freeze.
