Specimen Requirements

Tube/Container Type:

Preferred

• UTM Kit Flocked Swab - Viral

Acceptable

• BD Urine Tube (no additive)
• CSF sterile tubes (Routine Analysis)

Buccal swab is the preferred sample - collect in UTM/VTM.
Throat or pharyngeal swabs in UTM/VTM is acceptable.
Urine sample: Minimum of 0.5 mL

DEDICATED SAMPLE is required. Not to be shared with other Respiratory tests.
(Note: red capped UTM kits with flocked swab have replaced the green viral swab)

LabPlus test guide indicates an EDTA as acceptable however they do not recommend the use of that specimen. The specimens noted above are preferred.
