Laboratory Handling
Phlebotomy
4-10 mL urine , casual pottle preferred. A brief clinical history is essential. Paediatric specimens, minimum volume 2 mL.
Transport
Keep cool and freeze (-20C) if not sent to the laboratory within 4 hours.
Separating
Freeze on arrival in the lab. Please note time of collection and time of freezing of the urine sample on request form. DO NOT ALIQUOT.

Sample Stability
These can be tested and remain stable at -20C for a minimum of 4 weeks. Record any delays on the request form.

Pre-testing Requirements
An early morning specimen is preferred but a random sample is also acceptable. A brief clinical history is essential.
For diagnosis, samples taken during acute episodes are most suitable.
Additional Specimen Information
Laboratory Notes:
Urine testing only (note serum MMA is a sendaway to CHL)
If CMV urine is also requested, send to Virology Immunology first.
All urine collects will be accepted and analysed and result considered in a clinical context.
