Specimen:
24 hr urine collected into acid bottle is the recommended sample for adults.
A spot urine in a plain container (for phosphate/creatinine ratio). Request for phosphate and creatinine.
Laboratory Notes
Urine Phosphate is stable in a non acidified sample for at least 48 hrs at room temperature from the time that the collection is completed.
If a specimen is likely to be analysed after this 48hrs, an acidified aliquot of the urine should be prepared as per the SOP.
