Preferred Sample Volume (ml)

When possible, collect a 24hr urine (this minimises the effect of fluctuations over the day), 30 mL required, no preservative

Otherwise (e.g. infants/small children) collect spot/random urine, 20 mL required, no preservative

Please note that relevant clinical notes are required to assist the interpretation of the profile

For LabPlus ALSS:

Prepare the required volume of urine as described above depending on age
If a 24hr collect - note the total volume on the form
Label the samples "Urine Steroid Profile"
Place in the International Sendaway 4 o C box

Specimen Transport Instructions for Referring Laboratories:
This test may be vetted by a pathologist. The clinical information for the test must be clearly written on the request form. If clinical information is not provided, or does not provide sufficient justification for the test, the test may be declined .

No preservative
Neonates and young children: 20 mL spot urine sample is required
Older children and adults: 30 mL aliquot of a 24 hour urine is required ( Note the total volume of the 24hr collect on the form )
